Jordan's Islamic opposition said Sunday the deadly string of attacks on the United States were contrary to Islam but blamed them on Washington's foreign policy.
"God forbids all kinds of aggression against people as well as animals, unless it is based on law," the Islamic Action Front (IAF), Jordan's main oposition group, said in a statement.
"America's official policies [since the end of World War II] have made the United States an enemy for many people," the IAF said, calling for a "complete revision" of US policy.
It said Washington must stop making "accusations against Arab and Islamic parties," which "encourage Zionist acts of vengeance against the American Arab and Muslim community."
The creation of an "international coalition under the pretext of fighting terrorism will do nothing but deepen the animosity and rancor between the people," it said.
The IAF called on all Arab and Islamic governments not to follow America's "pro-war" policy or risk eliciting "the wrath of God and the denunciation of future generations."
Jordan has condemned the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon outside Washington but maintains they would not have occurred if the United States had "resolved the problems in the Middle East, notably the Israeli-Palestinian question” -- AMMAN (AFP)
