Jordan's King Abdullah II and US president-elect George Bush have pledged to work together to help achieve peace in the Middle East in a telephone call initiated by the monarch, officials said Sunday.
Abdullah telephoned Bush on Saturday to congratulate him on his election victory and both stressed their determination to developing bilateral ties and work together to help achieve a lasting peace in the Middle East, they said.
On Thursday Foreign Minister Abdel Ilah al-Khatib told AFP Jordan hoped the United States "will pursue its role in the search for peace" under the leadership of Bush.
