Jordan's Information Minister Mohammed Momani told the Associated Press Monday that the Kingdom is "eager to assume" the United Nations Security Council seat that Saudi Arabia decided to decline last month.

Jordan, who often alligns with US interests and stances, is allegedly "consulting" with Gulf countries, the US and other governments, to assist and support the Hashemite Kingdom's bid for the seat, according to Momani. The UN General Assembly vote that will determine if Jordan can win this vacant seat that is usually reserved for an Arab country on the country is still to be set.

"[Receiving the seat] is recognition [of Jordan's standing]," says Momani.

Saudi Arabia previously turned down the UNSC seat following an October 17th UN General Assembly vote, citing its action as a response to its frustration with US approaches to Middle East issues, particularly in terms of Syria.
