Jordan riot Police were reported to have interferred Tuesday to disperse large crowds who took part in a rally that headed to the border crossing to emphasize the right of the Palestinian refugees to return to their homeland.

Eyewitnesse told Albwaba.com by telephone that shots were fired, and tear gas were used to disprese the crowd and block the rally’s route to King Hussein Bridge.

Ambulaces were seen rushing to Jordan Valley, where the rally was apprently stopped while on its wayto the bridge.

Scores of buses and other vehicles were seen in the early morning hours driving through the streets of the capital Amman and other towns on their way to the bridge, one of the border crossings.

Participants were carrying banners and chanting slogans calling for the liberation of the land occupied by Israel, and the return of millions of Palestinian refugees to their towns and villages in Palestine.

The ‘Return’ rally, organized by the Jordanian Professional Associations, brought together members of political parties, and other groups and organizations in the Kingdom, along with members of parliament and public figures.

The Jordanian government Monday allowed the Professional Associations to launch the rally but demanded that order be maintained and that it does not reach the bridge.

Murad Adayleh, head of the Palestine Committee at the Professional Associations earlier told Albawaba that” the government gave permission for only 45 vehicles (carrying participants) to take part in the ‘return’ rally organized by the Professional Associations.” He said 25 buses were to set off from Amman and the others from other Jordanian regions.
