The Jordanian government plans to hike the prices of petrol and some oil derivatives early next year to make up for an expected shortfall of over JD100 million in revenue and keep the 2001 budget deficit within a six percent target, the Jordan Times reported Thursday.
The paper quoted a senior official as saying that the new prices would be decided early next year and would have little impact on low-income Jordanians.
The officials told an informal meeting of journalists' hours after Finance Minister Michel Marto unveiled the JD 2.3 billion-draft budget for 2001 at Parliament and spoke about the need for such an increase -- Albawaba.com
