Jordan and Egypt have agreed to start the implementation of a joint gas project, said Jordanian deputy prime minister for economic affairs, Muhammad Halayqa, on Monday.
The two countries will set up a 240-kilometer line, extending from Areesh to Aqaba with a cost of $300m, he told the official Jordanian news agency, Petra.
The project's tender is due to be set forward to the two countries' private sectors, not later than next august.
The implementation period will last 18 months, he added.
The gas line will supply Jordan with a clean source of energy
with a competitive price compared with the heavy duty oil fuel which is currently used, Halayqa said.
The Line will make Jordan a center for gas distribution in the region, he added – Albawaba.com
