Jordan Customs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with DHL Express in Jordan, the pioneering express and logistics company, to organise working procedures at the DHL clearing centre at the Queen Alia International Airport. This initiative is part of Jordan Customs’ drive to improve and simplify working procedures, and to confirm its commitment to cooperating with investing companies and the private sector.
The agreement was signed by His Excellency Mr. Metib al Al Zaben, General Manager of Jordan Customs, and Mr. Mazin Saba, Operations Manager at DHL Jordan in lieu of Mr. Bachi Spiga, Operations Manager for DHL Middle East. The official signing took place on Thursday 1st November 2007, in the presence of a number of representatives from each party and members of the Jordanian media.
His Excellency Mr. Matab Al Zabn, General Manager of Jordan Customs, said, “Signing this Memorandum of Understanding comes as an important step on the road to making real changes and developments in the logistics services industry. The aim of Jordan Customs is to ease and speed up the shipping process for the commercial sector by means of express delivery. In addition, we are working to offer a unique 24-hour service every day of the year for citizens dealing with Jordan Customs and DHL.”
The terms of the agreement stipulate the use of a communication network for the exchange of information and electronic data between DHL and Jordan Customs. This will facilitate the express freight and logistics service provided by DHL.
Mr. Mazin Saba, Operations Manager at DHL Express Jordan, said that the company is working diligently to build a comprehensive centre for freight and logistics services, with a range of comprehensive services and solutions to meet customer needs. Improvements will continue to be implemented to increase speed of delivery and efficiency of service.
”The processes of continuous improvement in regard to organization of work processes and operations at the customs centre, contributes in a very effective manner to developing the shipping, transport and logistics services industry overall”, he added. “The improved effectiveness combined with the rapid growth of freight operations, has an effect on stimulating economic growth and opening up the markets of the region to the outside world.”
As stipulated by the agreement, Jordan Customs has provided qualified staff to work at the DHL customs clearing centre to coordinate with the regulatory bodies and to offer round-the-clock services.
