Japanese Foreign Minister Yohei Kono Saturday called for expanding Tehran-Tokyo mutual cooperation, reported Iran News Agency (IRNA).
The Japanese minister made the remarks at a meeting with the visiting Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Education and Research, Sadeq Kharrazi.
Supporting the idea of "Dialogue among Civilizations" put forward by President Mohammed Khatami and approved by the United Nations, Kono said that the Japanese government in cooperation with the UN would hold a meeting in this regard in Tokyo in 2001, said the agency.
During the meeting, the two sides also reviewed the expansion of ties between Iran and Japan as well as regional and international cooperation.
Referring to the strategic location of Iran and Japan's position in the international arena, the Iranian deputy minister said that regional cooperation between the two countries would play an important role in the development of the Arabian Gulf region and Central Asian countries as well as the west Asian region, IRNA added - Albawaba.com
