Italy is prepared to host further talks to solve the latest crisis in the Middle East, Prime Minister, Giuliano Amato, said Wednesday.
"We have proposed Rome to take the negotiations a step further," Amato told parliament. He was waiting for a response to the proposal, he added.
Amato discussed the issue with former Israeli prime minister Shimon Peres on Tuesday night during Peres' snap visit to Rome at the start of a European tour to explain Israel's position on the latest flare-up of violence.
During parliamentary question time, Amato said "a breach is opening" in the Middle East crisis, in which Europe was trying to be helpful - ROME (AFP)
