The first Information and Communications Technology (ICT) workshop to gather the leading Jordanian women in this sector was held on Tuesday entitled `Women in ICT: Reaching for Success,' the Jordan Times reported.
The one-day event hosted by the Information Technology Association in Jordan (int@j) in cooperation with the USAID-funded program AMIR, focused on women's current and future contributions to the ICT sector in the kingdom.
According to the co-founder of ESKADENIA Software Solutions, Doha Abdel Khaleq, “Jordan is the ideal country to invest in, especially with this emerging trend towards globalization and IT.”
As a woman, she explained that she has not encountered any gender-related problems while working in the IT sector.
However, “we faced the usual start-up problems with regards to funding, [professional] competence and understanding the legal IT framework,” she told the Amman-based paper.
According to her, Jordan is “hungry” for smart and competent men and women, and the IT sector holds plenty of room for enterprising young women.
“People are seeking talented women in IT, and in my opinion there is no intentional discrimination against them. As a manager, I try to recruit women into the company, and with a total of 42 employees, 30 percent are female,” said Khaleq – Albawaba.com
