Israeli troops arrested a senior member of Fatah movement on Saturday, the group said in a statement.

Mohammad Lutfi, also known as Abu Lutfi, was taken from his house in Beitunia, southwest of Ramallah, the statement said.

Lutfi is a member of Fatah's revolutionary council, as well as secretary general of the group's West Bank operations and director of the Palestinian interior ministry, AFP reported.

"As part of its offensive against the political and secular leaders of Fatah and its plots aimed at ending the noble Palestinian intifada (uprising), the Israeli occupation forces abducted Abu Lutfi," the statement said.

Fatah denounced the arrest and called for Abu Lutfi's "immediate release", warning Israel of harming him.

"We warn Israel against any harm to his life or the lives of any of the prisoners in its jails, and we confirm that the (Fatah) movement will continue to resist to occupation, until liberation and independence," it said. (Albawaba.com)
