Israeli Communications Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer will announce Thursday his decision to approve opening the local communications market to competition on November 1st, reported Haaretz newspaper, adding that the move could lead to an eventual strike by workers of the private-owned Bezeq telecom company.

Senior ministry officials cautioned that Ben-Eliezer, while determined to go ahead with the plan, has yet to make a final decision on when it will be announced.

The regulations were presented to the Knesset Economics Committee about two months ago, and Ben-Eliezer was to have signed them following the panel's deliberations, said the daily.

However, Bezeq workers threatened to strike if the market was opened to competition before an agreement with the ministry was reached.

The daily said that Bezeq labor leaders warned Ben-Eliezer of "all-out war" if he went ahead with signing the regulations at the time - Albawaba.com
