Israel’s Supreme Court issued an order Friday delaying the appointment of Ehud Yatom as Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s counter-terrorism adviser.

The court order came in response to a petition from Meretz MKs Yossi Sarid and Mossy Raz, according to the Jerusalem Post.

In the petition against the appointment, the two claim Sharon did not take into consideration the severity of Yatom's role in the Bus 300 scandal of 1984, and did not consult with Attorney General Elyakim Rubinstein on the sensitive issue prior to the appointment.

Yatom, who was a senior General Security Service agent at the time, admitted that he killed two captured Palestinian terrorists in 1996 in a newspaper interview, said the report.

Yatom's appointment was also made without the approval of Civil Service Commissioner Shmuel Hollander.

The commissioner must examine every appointee to the civil service to ensure that there are no grounds to bar them, Hollander was quoted as saying on Monday.

The court will decide on a date to reexamine the evidence in the case after Hollander's review, the paper said, quoting Israel Radio - Albawaba.com
