Three Palestinians were wounded late Wednesday by Israeli army shelling of their house in Silwad town near Jerusalem, one of them seriously, Palestinian sources said.

Meanwhile, Israeli tanks and heavy machineguns bombarded Beit Jala, near Ramallah and caused damage to houses. A similar attack was underway in Jericho, where a residential area was hit.

Israeli forces blocked the way of ambulances into the attacked towns, the sources added.

The Israeli army told AFP that the shelling came in response to shooting coming from Beit Jala on the nearby Jewish settlement area of Gilo.
