Israeli planes broke the sound barrier Sunday over the port city of Tyre in southern Lebanon, some 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Beirut, an AFP reporter said.
Four Israeli planes broke the barrier over Tyre in the afternoon and flew at higher altitudes over other cities in the south and the Israeli border region.
Israel has stepped up air patrols of south Lebanon since the October 7 capture of three of its soldiers along the border by the Shiite militant group Hizbollah.
Israeli warplanes almost completely stopped flying over Lebanon following Israel's withdrawal in May from the southern part of the country, which it occupied for 22 years -- TYRE, Lebanon (AFP)
