Israeli helicopter attacks and intensive presence of Israeli soldiers followed an attack Sunday evening by armed Palestinians on an Israeli van at Kharabtha village near Ramallah in the West Bank.
Sources said that the van was sprayed with bullets but its driver narrowly escaped injury.
The Israeli forces tried to storm into the village but were faced by shots fired at them by residents, according to one villager. He said that no one was injured in the clash.
The Jerusalem Post cited Israeli army sources as saying that if attacks on settlers and soldiers continued, this would not be considered a lowering of the level of violence.
