Israeli forces carry out raids and detain 16 Palestinians across occupied West Bank

Israeli forces detained at least 16 Palestinians during predawn raids across the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, according to local Palestinian and Israeli army sources.

In the northern occupied West Bank district of Salfit, locals from the village of Qarawat Bani Hassan told Ma'an that Israeli forces detained five residents during raids.

The five were identified as Othman Asi, Bilal Asi, Mustafa Abd al-Aziz Mirei, Ahmad Harb Rayyan, and Muamin Jamal Mirei.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma'an five detentions in Qarawat Bani Hassan.

Locals from the northern West Bank, Nablus-area village of Urif reported that Israeli forces detained Ubadah Muhammad Shihada.

Muhammad Rizq Hamid was detained from the village of Silwad east of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank, according to locals.

In the southern West Bank district of Hebron, Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Awwa and detained Mahmoud Atif Masalma, Malik Muhammad Masalma, and Bahaa Muhammad al-Ikemi.

Also in the Hebron district, Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Ummar, where they detained Muntasir Wajih Abu Ayyash.

The Israeli army spokesperson confirmed three detentions from Beit Awwa, one from Beit Ummar, and one from Urif.

According to the army spokesperson, Israeli forces also detained one Palestinian from Tulkarem, one from the Nablus-area village of Talfit, two from the Ramallah-area village of Nilin, and one from the Bethlehem-area village of Nahhalin.

Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 185 military detention raids between Nov. 1 and Nov. 14.

According to prisoners rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of October. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
