An Israeli helicopter fired a rocket at a car in the northern West Bank town of Nablus on Thursday, killing Ibrahim Abdul Karim BaniOudeh, a Hamas leader, said Palestinian security sources.
The attack came a day after Bani Oudeh was released from Juneid Prison in the city. The victim resided in Tammoun village near Nablus.
The sources said that the identity of the Islamist was not clear at first since the rocket chopped off his head.
The sources added that the 1000-pound-rocket was fired near Al-Najah University.
The victim was rushed to the hospital by hundreds of Palestinians, said the sources, adding that was married and a father of five children.
