Israeli Foreign Minister David Levy has announced his intention to resign from Prime Minister Ehud Barak's one-year-old government on Wednesday, unless Barak moves towards forming a government of national unity, his office said Sunday.
Levy told Barak that he would resign "if there is no serious effort to form a national unity government between now and Wednesday," an official from Levy's office told AFP.
He also announced that he would abstain in a motion of no-confidence in Barak proposed by the right-wing opposition Likud party that is due to go before parliament on Monday.
Levy, 62, had threatened to quit in protest at what said were too many concessions by Barak to the Palestinians at the Camp David peace summit.
Speculation has been rife that Barak may be forced to form a national unity government with Likud since three of his former coalition partners quit in protest at the holding of the peace summit - OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (AFP)
