Israeli helicopter gunships fired missiles at a car in front of the offices of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat's Fateh movement on Saturday, but failed to kill their apparent target, witnesses told AFP.

Al Jazeera satellite channel said the missiles targeted a Fateh activist, Muhannad Abul Al Halawa, who was wounded but escaped the attack.

The second missile hit the vehicle directly, but the resistance leaders had abandoned the car after the first strike.

A Force 17 member who was at the scene was also wounded, said the station’s correspondent.
