An Israeli Greek Orthodox Monk was killed Tuesday night when Palestinian gunmen opened fire on his vehicle near the West Bank settlement of Ma’aleh Adumim, east of Jerusalem, reported Haaretz.

The victim was from the nearby Wadi Kelt monastery. He received initial medical treatment at the site of the attack but died shortly afterwards, said the paper.

AFP quoted an army spokesman as saying the priest was killed near an Israeli army roadblock on the route leading from occupied east Jerusalem to the Jewish settlement.

The monk, whose name was not immediately available, was driving his car when shots came from another car on the road. The other car sped off after the shooting, said the agency – Albawaba.com
