The Israeli army blamed the killing of two Israeli soldiers on the Palestinian Preventive Security in Gaza, headed by Colonel Mohammed Dahlan, reported Haaretz on Friday.

Two soldiers, Lieutenant Edward Mechnick, 21 from Be'er Sheva, and Sergeant Samer Hussein, 19, from Hurfeish, were killed Thursday in separate incidents in the Gaza strip, and three others were injured.

The security cabinet was meeting late last night to consider a response.

Mechnick was killed at one of the joint District Coordination Offices (DCO) set up to liaise between Israel and the Palestinian Authority on security matters. Israel consequently closed all DCOs, effectively ending the coordination of security activities between the two sides.

However, the Palestinians did not respond to the Israeli “orders” and “are still occupying DCOs,” according to The Jerusalem Post – (Several Sources)
