The Israeli army said Monday it had fired again in the direction of Syria, after the fall of a mortar shell in the occupied Golan Heights. Israeli Minister of Defense Ehud Barak clearly threatened Syria, Iran's main ally, saying: "A new fire into Israeli territory will lead to harder reaction, which Syria will pay the price."
The Israeli army on Sunday fired a warning shot towards Syria after a shell fired from that country fell on a military outpost in the Golan. It was the first time that Israel fired into Syria since the conflict started in March 2011.
Meanwhile, NATO on Monday threatened to intervene. NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, on Monday was quoted as saying: "NATO, as an organization will do what it takes to protect and defend Turkey, our ally. We have plans to ensure that we protect and defend Turkey so that there are no attacks against it."
