Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak will send envoys to Egypt and Jordan in the next few days to discuss the peace process with the Palestinians, his office said Monday.
The announcement was made as Israeli and Palestinian delegations were preparing for separate talks in Washington with US officials on Tuesday aimed at reviving their moribund peace process.
Justice Minister Yossi Beilin, who was an architect of the 1993 Oslo peace accords, will hold talks in Amman with Jordan's King Abdullah II while Yossi Sarid, leader of the left-wing Meretz party, will visit Cairo to meet with President Hosni Mubarak, Barak's office said in a statement.
"The meetings will take place in the next few days, during which the two will exchange their views and evaluations with their hosts regarding the Israeli-Palestinian matter," it said.
Egypt and Jordan are the only two Arab states to have signed peace treaties with Israel and have played key mediating roles in the peace process.
However, peacemaking has been left in tatters by the almost three-month wave of deadly Israeli-Palestinian unrest -- JERUSALEM (AFP)
