The planned sale of advanced Russian missiles to Syria will "disrupt regional stability" and thus Moscow should cancel the deal, Israel's foreign minister said Thursday.
Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said "We turned to the Russians and asked that they not complete this deal," Shalom said Thursday. "Syria is a country that supports terror and is supplying Hizbullah with weapons nonstop."
According to The AP, Shalom said the sale "will disrupt regional stability and won't improve the chances for peace."
The deal for the sale of advanced Igla SA-18 missiles was signed a few days ago, officials said.
Meanwhile, speaking about “rumors” of Russian weapons exports to Syria, the Syrian FM Farouq al Shara expressed regret over the “fabrication of such news” noting that it was a proof of prefabricated antagonist campaigns that begin before the event.
