Israel will be purchasing 14 F-35 stealth fighters, a $2.82 billion deal, from US aerospace company Lockheed Martin, Israel's defense ministry told AFP Sunday.
The agreement was signed over the weekend after the ministerial committee approved it in November.
The F-35s will cost an average of $110 million each, a purchase that Israel says will help the country's local economy significantly. The ministry said it hopes Israeli industries will get more involved in plane assembly and manufacturing.
The first fighter jets are expected to arrive by the end of 2016, according to the AFP.
