Israel published a list of 26 names late Saturday of "long-serving" Palestinian prisoners who will be released this week, according to the Associated Press.
The prisoners, who have been serving sentences between 19-28 years each, are set to be released this week as part of the ongoing peace negotiations that resumed in July. In conjunction with the talks and under heavy pressure from U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, Israel has agreed to release 104 of "the longest-serving Palestinian prisoners" currently imprisoned in its jails. In exchange, Palestinians have dropped a demand for Israelis to halt settlement construction.
All 26 prisoners were convicted for crimes associated with the killing of Israelis prior to the first Israeli-Palestinian peace talks that were held in 1993.
The release of the 26 prisoners represents the third of four planned prisoner releases.
