ALBAWABA - The Israeli military unleashed a series of airstrikes throughout Lebanon on Tuesday, asserting the attacks were directed at Hezbollah-associated locations.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee stated the strikes were aimed at Hezbollah installations in various areas of southern Lebanon, maintaining the operation concentrated on military infrastructure.
Adraee detailed that the Israeli air force targeted weapons depots, rocket launch platforms, production facilities, and other sites purportedly utilized by Hezbollah’s artillery units. He also noted that additional military structures and launch sites were struck during the operation.
Widespread Bombardment
Al Jazeera's Lebanon correspondent relayed that airstrikes had struck areas around Kfar Fila and Roumine, and the Jabal al-Rihane heights in the south. Additional strikes were reported in mountainous regions near Brital and al-Shaara, located in the Bekaa Valley, as well as Wadi Qalia and the Jbour region, both in western Bekaa, eastern Lebanon.
The correspondent indicated that the strikes were still happening, especially in the eastern parts of southern Lebanon. Visibility was poor, making it hard to pinpoint specific targets, but residents described hearing loud explosions over a wide area as Israeli warplanes flew at very low altitudes.
Rising Tensions on the Ground
She noted that Israel had issued a fresh warning, though it didn't specify which sites were at risk. The increased bombardment, much of it focused north of the Litani River, coincided with recent political and security shifts. These followed the Lebanese government's and army's announcement that the initial phase of an agreement to place weapons solely under state control south of the Litani River was complete, with the exception of seven locations still under Israeli control.
The report also indicated that the Israeli army targeted vehicles and buildings, in addition to ground incursions and home demolitions. Earlier Tuesday, Israeli forces reportedly moved more than 1,500 meters into Lebanese territory, destroying a building in the al-Bayader neighborhood of Yaroun.
This latest surge in hostilities highlights the escalating tensions along the Lebanon–Israel border, fueling worries about a further decline in the security situation.
