ALBAWABA - The Israel Security Agency Shin Bet announced the arrest of five Palestinians accused of allegedly planning to carry out a series of attacks in Israel and assassinating National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

Murad Kamamja and Hassan Mujarima, two out of five Palestinian suspects holding Israeli citizenship, were accused of being instructed by a Jordanian resident working for Iranian security forces.

According to the Shin Bet, the two had been assigned with smuggling weapons into Israel and acquiring intelligence information on two political assassination targets, Ben-Gvir and former MK Yehuda Glick.

The two were allegedly recruited by a Jenin-based Iranian operator in June, during which they torched a car in Haifa and recorded it, in what the Shin Bet described as a "test run" by Iranian operatives to assess civilians' willingness to carry out operations in Israel.

The Shin Bet said it takes the involvement of Israeli citizens in "terror plans very seriously," with indictments handed out to suspects seized by Israeli security services in recent days.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir took to Twitter to comment on the alleged assassination attempt saying: "I commend the General Security Service personnel and the security forces who exposed and captured the terrorist cell that intended to assassinate an Israeli minister,".

"I will continue to act fearlessly and with determination to bring about a fundamental change in the conditions of imprisonment for the terrorists in prison, to continue the fight against terrorism, to safeguard the rights of prayer and Jewish sovereignty on the Temple Mount, and to ensure the security and peace of Israeli citizens" Ben Gvir added.
