The Israeli army is thinking of bringing back the propaganda radio station it ran during its 22-year occupation of south Lebanon, an army official said Friday.

"The station will broadcast news for the residents of south Lebanon and warnings to Hizbollah," the group that spearheaded the armed opposition to Israeli occupation, and be resumed in the next few weeks," said the official, who requested anonymity.

The plan has met opposition, however, from other army officials, who told Israeli public radio that they feared restarting the station would give the impression that Israel wanted to continue meddling in Lebanese affairs.

"Voice of the South" was operated by the South Lebanon Army, Israel's proxy militia in the area, and most of its employees fled south when Israel ended its occupation May 24th - OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (AFP)
