Egyptian border sources said Tuesday that the Israeli authorities closed the crossing border between Egypt and Gaza Strip for an indefinite period, report said.

Sources were quoted by AFP as saying that around 200 Palestinians were forced to turn back as they were trying to enter Gaza when the Israelis closed the border.

This closure came to enforce siege on the Palestinians specially those who live in Gaza Strip and the rest of selfrule area.

The decision also comes as a mass punishment for Palestinian people over the suicide bomb attacks in Haifa and Al Quds which killed at least 27 Israelis and wounded more than 250 others.

Since then the Israeli warplanes and helicopters did not stop air striking the Palestinian and offices of President Yasser Arafat in Gaza and Ramallah.

The attacks came short after the urgent Israeli Cabinet meeting headed Israeli Prime Minister Arial Sharon following his return from US on Monday.

The Israeli authorities have repeatedly closed the Gaza borders with Egypt, under the Palestinian Authority in accordance with Oslo agreement, during the current uprising against the Israeli occupation which erupted in September 2000 – Albawaba.com
