Bulgarian officials announced Sunday that they identified the bomber from 2012 airport bus attack that left five Israeli tourists and the driver dead as a Lebanese man, according to Agence France Presse.
Bulgaria's Pressa newspaper cited that Bulgarian intelligence services have confirmed that a Lebanese man was behind the attack but Chief prosecutor spokeswoman Rumyana Arnaudova declined to comment on the latest report, telling AFP "The investigation is ongoing and is very intensive…confirm[ing] details around the probe might jeopardize it."
Bulgaria had already previously identified the attacker as an alleged accomplice of two Lebanese men that had known links with the powerful Lebanese Anti-Israeli Shiite group, Hezbollah.
Investigators, however, have thus far been unable to identify the bomber, despite having DNA samples from his limbs that were found in the aftermath of the attack.
Chief prosecutor of the investigation Sotir Tsatsarov recently returned from a four-day visit to Israel where he met with the country's attorney general. The 2012 bombing at Bulgaria's Burgas airport represents the deadliest attack on Israelis abroad since 2004.
