ALBAWABA - An investigation by Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth revealed claims that Israel targeted its own citizens during the surprise attack by Hamas on October 7th.

The investigation included the confessions of two IDF pilots that they were instructed to target vehicles and houses that belonged to Israelis, during the surprise attack by Hamas on a music festival that was held near the Gaza borders.

The investigation also reported that Hamas fighters went around Israeli neighborhoods disguised as Israelis, avoiding surfing main roads to deceive surveillance cameras and Israeli police.

Commenting on the investigation, Haaretz newspaper said that the IDF had no choice but to bomb military facilities that were taken over by Hamas, despite knowing that there were Israelis inside.

Israeli Army Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi said on Sunday that during Hamas's Oct. 7 surprise attack, the armed forces did not properly defend Israeli settlements close to the Gaza Strip.

"We are aware of the failure. We failed to protect the communities. We did not prepare for such a scenario," he said. "We will study everything, and we will learn our lessons. We are determined to complete the mission and to destroy Hamas".

Hamas operation against Israel

Hamas military group announced on Oct. 7 a military operation called "Al-Aqsa Flood" against Israel which is the biggest offensive in decades.

Palestinian fighters “infiltrated” Israel from the Gaza Strip and captured military bases and took hostages as photos and videos went viral online showing Hamas fighters on vehicles inside Israel and others paragliding into occupation territory.

In response, Israeli armed forces announced targeting Hamas positions inside the Gaza Strip. Thousands were killed, and dozens of thousands of others were injured in the Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.
