Jordanian-Palestinian extremist cleric Abu Qatada arrived in Jordan on Sunday, after he was deported by the British government.
Qatada arrived at Marka military airport at 10AM Sunday on a flight from RAF Northolt, Britain.
The cleric was first arrested in 2001 in connection with terror organisations and the British government tried to deport him for more than eight years.
In order to facilitate his deportation, Jordan and the UK signed an extradition treaty, agreeing that evidence obtained through torture would not be used against him. He faces a retrial in the Hashemite Kingdom on charges of plotting bomb attacks against American and Israeli tourists during Jordan's millennium celebrations.
A Jordanian government spokesman confirmed the legal process against him had started and reiterated assurances that the trial would meet international standards, Ammon News reported.
Years of legal proceedings against Qatada have cost the British state more than $2.5 million.
British Prime Minister Prime Minister David Cameron said he was "delighted" that his removal had been achieved.
