Islamic State of Syria and Iraq militants in Syria have taken a major government airbase Taqba under their control in Raqqa province, said activists.
The Taqba airbase was the last remaining grip under the President Bashar al-Assad's government in Raqqa province.
According to the BBC, hundreds have been killed in violence in the province so far.
The United Nations said that at least 1,91,000 people have been killed in the last three years of Syrian conflict.
The Islamic State has spread to large parts of eastern Syria and northern Iraq in the recent months.
