ALBAWABA - Iraq's Prime Minister and the spokesperson for the Armed Forces Commander, Yahya Resul, issued a written statement. In it, Prime Minister Sudani called for a curfew in Kirkuk due to ongoing protests and instructed security forces to ensure the rule of law in the area.
Resul emphasized that Sudani urged extensive security operations and thorough searches in the areas where incidents are occurring. The Prime Minister also insisted on the immediate detention of anyone, regardless of their affiliation, who attempts to disrupt Kirkuk's security.
In his address to various political and social groups in Kirkuk, Sudani called upon them to play their part in averting potential turmoil and safeguarding the city's security and stability.
Kirkuk's Police Department Spokesperson, Amir Nuri, reported to AA news agency that during the recent events in the city, one person lost their life, and six others sustained injuries.
Additionally, in the predominantly Kurdish Rahimava district, counter-demonstrations were held. When protesters favoring the return of the building to the KDP approached the demonstration area in front of the headquarters, security forces fired warning shots into the air. The scene was marked by rising smoke, and ambulances were dispatched to the area.
These protesters are demanding not only the reopening of the Erbil-Kirkuk road, which had been blocked by opponents of returning the building to the party but also a resolution to their grievances.
