Iraq's minister for military industrialization has been promoted to the rank of deputy prime minister under a decree issued by President Saddam Hussein on Wednesday, reported the official Iraqi News Agency (INA).
Abdul-Tawab Mulla Howeish, who will retain his current duties, becomes Hussein's fifth deputy prime minister after Taha Yassin Ramadan, also vice president; Tareq Aziz, acting foreign minister; Hekmat Al Azzawi, also finance minister; and Ahmad Hussein Khudeir, the head of Iraq's presidential cabinet.
Late June, Iraqi Irrigation Minister Mahmoud Al was named to head the interior ministry.
Ahmad had been named interim head of the interior ministry on May 29, to replace Mohammad Zamam Abdel Razzaq, who had been moved to a post managing affairs within the ruling Baath party.
In April, Hussein carried out a cabinet reshuffle only days after his son, Uday, criticized the government’s performance at the Arab summit in Amman in late March.
Foreign Minister Mohammed Sahhaf was appointed minister of information, replacing Hammam Abdul-Khalq.
Abdul-Khaleq was assigned to the post of minister of higher education and scientific research.
Aziz was appointed as acting foreign minister.
