Iraqi forces have repelled an attack by Daesh (ISIS) on a town between two militant-controlled cities in the Anbar province, a tribal leader told AP on Tuesday.
The assault on Khaldiya comes two days after the extremists captured the provincial capital Ramadi. Sheikh Rafie al-Fahdawi said no Iraqi troops have been killed in the fight.
The offensive started shortly after midnight to seize the town between Ramadi and Fallujah, another Daesh-controlled city, al-Fahdawi said.
Daesh has gained significant ground in Iraq with Ramadi, what the AP called the greatest advance by the group since the US-led coalition began conducting airstrikes against the militants.
