Gunmen attacked a busload of construction workers south of Baghdad on Saturday, killing at least 11 and wounding three others, police said. According to The AP, the attack took place in Diyara, some 50 kms south of Baghdad, at around 10:30 a.m. when gunmen in at least two cars opened fire on a minibus.
A car bomb went off in a street in a Shi'ite area of Baghdad overnight, killing 11 people and injuring 29, police and hospital officials said on Saturday, according to Reuters. Residents in the area said locals had become suspicious about a vehicle parked in a street in northwest Baghdad on Friday evening. As they crowded around it, the car went off.
Elsewhere, a man wearing explosives under a police uniform set them off in heavily guarded Baghdad police academy on Saturday, killing five people. According to The AP, police said seven people suffered wounds in the attack targeting the headquarters of the Wolf Brigade, a commando force led by a top leader of Iraq's largest Shiite Muslim political party. Most of them were policemen, said Maj. Falah al-Mahamdawi, a witness.
