Roadside bombs killed seven U.S. soldiers in Iraq on Saturday, including four in a single attack outside Baghdad, the military said.
The dead included four soldiers northwest of the capital, a U.S. airman in Tikrit, and two U.S. soldiers in eastern Baghdad whose unit has recently targeted bomb networks.
Meanwhile, thousands of American and Iraqi troops are taking part in simultaneous offensives around Baghdad against al Qaeda men. U.S. and Iraqi forces claim they have killed 90 al Qaeda fighters around Baghdad in the past five days, during one of the biggest combined offensives since the invasion of Iraq in 2003.
U.S. air strikes on Saturday killed seven suspected al Qaeda fighters in Tikrit in Salahuddin province and near the city of Falluja, west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said in a statement, cited by Reuters.
