A seven-year-old boy was among those killed by the suicide bomb that struck the Northern Iraqi city of Mosul late on Tuesday night, AP reported.
The death toll rose to seven, since the original estimate of four deaths and a further 15 people have been left wounded. The bomb was detonated by the gate of a military base in Mosul after the suicide bomber triggered the fuse on himself and his truck, laden with explosives.
The attack marks a continued deterioration of security around Iraq. Sectarian tensions have mounted in recent months after the Shia-led government implemented new anti-terror laws that the minority Sunni community said targeted them.
In the north of the country, the Kurdish minority have attempted to set up an autonomous state, including their own army, leading to conflict with central Baghdad. Both claim to have control over the oil fields in the region.
