Six people were killed at an army recruitment center in north Iraq Wednesday morning in the latest suicide bombing attack that has been reported, according to Agence France Presse.
A militant strapped with a bomb entered the center located in the town of Riyadh in Kirkuk province when he detonated himself. Six of the recruits were killed at the scene, and fourteen others were injured in the attack, according to army Major General Mohammed Khalaf Al Dulaimi.
Sectarian tensions have escalated drastically ahead of the tentative late April parliamentary elections. The violence, has allegedly been driven by "the disaffected Sunni Arab minority," who has been mistreated and underrepresented in government since the Shiite majority took over the leadership.
According to AFP figures, more than 2,200 people have already been killed in 2014 alone.
