The Iranian petrochemical exports for the period of March 2000 to January 2001 reached a record high level, totaling about 800 million dollars, deputy oil minister for petrochemical affairs, Mohammad-Reza Nematzadeh, was quoted as saying by the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
He said that the reason was due to the increase in prices of the products and the amount of their exports.
He expressed hope that up to 12 million tons of petrochemical products will be produced by the end of 2001, showing a rise of one million tons compared to figures for the same period last year.
The National Iranian Petrochemical Company (NIPC) is now implementing
16 projects with an investment of six billion dollars, he added.
The official, said IRNA, predicted that Iran's petrochemical production capacity would reach 40 million tons in 2005 after the completion of 16 projects for the development of the petrochemical industry.
The official said two projects for the production of polyethylene and a project for establishment of utility peripheral installations are to be implemented through joint ventures with Dutch, German, Belgian and French companies -- Albawaba.com
