A cargo vessel allegedly carrying Iranian weapons destined for Gaza arrived Saturday in an Israeli port.
A combat unit with expertise in bomb disposal was sent to Eilat to examine crates on the Klos C to determine if they are booby-trapped, Ynetnews reported. If the crates are found to be safe, they will be unloaded by the Army.
The Klos C was captured early Wednesday by two Israeli naval vessels, which escorted it to Eilat.
IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner said the shipment included Syrian-manufactured surface-to-surface rockets.
Islam Shahwan, a spokesman for Gaza's interior ministry, dismissed the IDF's announcement as an attempt by Israel to justify its continuing blockade. "The Palestinian resistance is not naive to send this amount of weapons through the sea while it is totally under siege in the Gaza strip."
