Iran, one of the most earthquake-prone regions in the world, has built its first quake-proof mosque, the official IRNA news agency reported Sunday.
The all-wood mosque, located near the northeastern city of Neshabur, took 14 months to construct and can withstand shocks of up to 7.0 degrees on the Richter scale, IRNA said.
Quakes and smaller tremors are an almost daily occurrence in Iran, which counts some 40,000 mosques nationwide -- TEHRAN (AFP)
