Iran will build cement plants in Syria, Libya and Bangladesh, an Iranian industry official was quoted as saying by the Iranian News Agency (IRNA).
Deputy-head of technical services at Iran Industries Construction Company (IICC), Alireza Sheikh-Attar, told IRNA that the cost of a plant to be constructed at a city 209km to the north of Damascus, is estimated to be $196 million, adding that the project will be carried out as a turnkey operation.
He stated that IICC won a Syrian tender for the project.
IICC, affiliated to the industries ministry, will assume the task of project management for the three-year duration of the construction and will use Iranian, Syrian as well as European companies, he told the agency.
Syria will finance half of the project from internal resources and obtain the remaining funds from the Kuwait Development Fund, the company official said.
He added that the company is involved in upgrading and renovating two other cement plants in Syria.
Sheikh-Attar added that IICC is scheduled to build a cement producing plan at a cost of $150 million in Libya.
The company has also signed an agreement with Bangladesh on a joint venture for the construction of a cement plant in that country, he said -- Albawaba.com
