Secretary of the cabinet Dr. Abdollah Ramezanzadeh has been sentenced to jail for six months based on a ruling by bench 1403 of the Judiciary Complex for the Offences Committed by Government Employees.

According to ISNA, the ruling has been made based on a complaint by the Guardian Council when elections in Saqqez and Baneh were rendered void. Based on this report, Ramezanzadeh, then governor-general of Kordestan Province had made statements about the nullification of the

elections.

On Saturday, the Persian daily Iran reported that a Tehran court had sentenced the secretary-general of the mainstream Islamic Revolution's Mujahedin Organization (IRMO), Mohammad Salamati, to 26 months in jail on unspecified charges.

It had further revoked the publishing license of the IRMO's weekly, Asr-e Ma, the paper wrote. Iranian courts have banned dozens of newspapers for publishing "lies and instigating public opinion" and jailed several journalists

since last April.

The managing editor of a local publication in the southern Persian Gulf city of Bandar Abbas said two weeks ago that a press court had sentenced him to a suspended jail term and a cash fine.

Gholam-Hossein Ataei, the managing editor of the Neday-e Hormuzgan publication, said he had been given an 18-month jail term, suspended for five years, as well as a fine of 15 million rials ($8,570). (Albawaba.com)
