ALBAWABA - Via the Interpol, the Foreign Ministry of Argentina announced issuing a red notice against Iranian Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi, for alleged connection to the attack Argentinian Israelite Association in Buenos Aires in 1994.
The foreign ministry released a statement announcing the issuance of the arrest warrant, reading: "Argentina demands the international detention of those responsible for the 1994 AMIA attack, which caused the death of 85 people, and they continue in their positions of power with total impunity,".
Vahidi, along with several high-profile Iranian officials, is on a state visit to Pakistan and Siri Lanka, and at the request of Argentina, Interpol issued a red notice against the Iranian Interior Minister.
"One of them is Ahmad Vahidi, requested by the Argentine Justice as one of those responsible for the attack on the AIMA. This individual is currently the Minister of the Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran and is part of a government entourage that is in Pakistan and Siri Lanka these days," the statement continues.
The Argentinian government requested for the Pakistani government to arrest Vahidi in compliance with the Interpol red notice and for the extradition of the Iranian minister while he is on a visit to Pakistan.
This comes just two weeks after Argentine courts formally accused Iran of responsibility for the explosion, in which a bomb-laden van was rammed into the AMIA building and detonated, killing 85 people and injuring over 300. To date, the bombing is the deadliest incident in Argentine history.
Ahmad Vahidi is an Iranian Revolutionary Guards commander who has served as Minister of the Interior since August 25, 2021. In addition, he currently serves on the Expediency Discernment Council. He has served in the Quds Force since 1988.
Pakistan is unlikely to cooperate while Iranian President Raisi and his entourage are in the country. Pakistan and Iran have both signed Memorandums of Understanding, with the goal of strengthening collaboration against the Israeli influence in the region.
