The morning turnout in the second and final phase of parliamentary polls in Lebanon Sunday was relatively low, in voting that was free of security incidents, Interior Minister Michel Murr announced.
Murr told a press conference that turnout was 15 percent in Beirut, 11 percent in eastern Lebanon and 11.75 percent in the southern parts of the country at 11:15 a.m. (0815 GMT).
"Turnout is good, but still low and we hope it will improve throughout the day. There is still time," he said.
"I also hope that the process continues in the same calm ... and we are making sure the security and army forces remain neutral," he said.
Murr also said Syria "does not interfere either positively or negatively" in the polls.
Official figures showed that turnout reached 56 percent in Mount Lebanon and 46 percent in the north when the first stage of the elections was held in those regions last Sunday - BEIRUT (AFP)
