Indonesian President Megawati Sukarnoputri arrived in Tokyo on Wednesday to hold talks with Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on the US-led war against terror.
"President Megawati arrived at Haneda airport at around 7:04 pm (1004 GMT)," a Japanese foreign ministry official said.
During her five-day stay in Japan, Megawati will also meet Japanese Foreign Minister Makiko Tanaka, Finance Minister Masajuro Shiokawa and trade minister Takeo Hiranuma, he said.
The fight against terrorism is likely to be high on the agenda of her meetings with Japanese leaders in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
Megawati and Koizumi separately met US President George W. Bush in Washington over the past week and condemned the September 11 attacks on the United States that killed nearly 7,000 people.
Koizumi returned home late Wednesday from Washington, where he promised the US president full support for his planned retaliation.
Megawati denounced the "inhumane" attacks when she held talks with Bush on September 19 in his first meeting with a Muslim leader since the attacks.
Megawati faces strong domestic pressure as protesters demonstrate against any retaliatory US attack on Afghanistan, where terror suspect Osama bin Laden is believed to be hiding.
Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim country.
On Friday, Megawati will meet with Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.
She is also scheduled to hold talks with business leaders. Japan is one of the main trading partners and sources of foreign investment for Indonesia, as well as its leading aid donor -- TOKYO (AFP)
